Backyard Cafe & Grill in Houston

Excellent place to enjoy delicious gourmet food! We just got home from a church function out in their very large, screened in meeting room, complete with many ceiling fans so it made it quite comfortable! Excellent waitresses! I always enjoy eating at The Backyard Cafe.The food is good, the servers are friendly and the homemade ice cream is the added "icing on the cake." Whenever I make a trip to the Columbia area for more than a day, I make a point to eat here.

I got the fried catfish and it was phenomenal. Not overcooked. It was not too crunchy with breading. It was still hot on my plate. I will order that again for sure

This is a great cozy restaurant with a variety of home cooked meals. We love going to eat here as it is just down the road, good service, and never too busy. I look forward to many more meals here!

I’ve dined in here once a couple years ago but most recently have ordered delivery through door dash. My wife’s burger was a perfect medium and wing chips nice and crispy. The slow-cooked pot roast was honestly some of the most tender stringy beef I’ve ever eaten. Good mash taters. And tonight had the steak Alfredo. I ordered salad both times and each time, you can tell they are built with care and attention to detail. Very impressed with the freshness and care that goes into the food with the delivery service, you’re definitely doing it properly. I was a Chef for 8 years. Only “critique” I would have is maybe tweak the gravy on the roast a touch, it was good, but with a little more oomph would take the pot roast over the top. Amazing little establishment, highly recommend 😃😃

The menu has something for every member of the family. Everything I have ordered seems like my mom cooked it. That's how good it is. If that's not enough, they offer amazing flavors of homemade ice cream. I actually got a free ice cream on my birthday. There's nothing like a family-owned restaurant that loves people. You owe it to yourself to visit. You'll be glad you did.

Always a great time. Usually they have the best chicken parm in town. This time the sauce seemed to not be fresh and had a burnt taste to it. I'll give it another try for sure.

Very friendly people. Went with my aunt and everyone greeted and hugged her. Good place to take your family.

Really good local place with excellent homemade ice cream

I had always said that I was going to go to the Backyard Cafe at some point. Probably eight years after they opened I finally did go in there for dinner, and it was everything that everyone said it was. Really good food and very friendly staff.

Small, quaint, friendly and such.a wide variety to choose from. Something for everyone, and the food is absolutely delicious ...and don't get me started on the deserts!! Several trips needed to try each one and lose weight to come back for the next one on the list! Loved it!

Such a precious, family- owned cafe. Everything I’ve tried has been phenomenal and their homemade ice cream is to DIE for. It has a nice “homey” vibe that is carried out with great service. 100% recommend

I'm always on the hunt to try something new food-wise, but it was actually my wife who suggested The Backyard Cafe and I'm glad she did! I had a double cheeseburger that makes all others look second rate. My wife had an order of chicken parm that she said was amazing. Next time we'll dine in and take in the coziness of the restaurant, which happens to be a ranch style house. Great neighborhood spot, friendly staff!

First time for us coming here. Wonderful! The staff was so friendly and helpful and the food was great! Best fried catfish I have ever had, hands down! We also LOVE those sweet cats that greet you at the door!

The food was amazing and the staff were great too. The waitress made sure we were taken care of at all times. The cook and owner even checked to make sure everything was good. Had a delicous lunch and then stayed to enjoy the eclipse! The Black & Blue Salad was excellent. The black bean soup was very tasty. The steak flatbread was also delicous. Save room for dessert because the housemade icecream is fantastic. The first rate service was prompt, friendly and professional.

Love this place! I have been here with large groups and the service and food was great. I've been here many more times with my family and never been disappointed! Their alfredo is to die for, it's my go to.

The was our first time eating here. The staff was friendly, including the fat, gray cat that greeted us. 😊 The food was freshly made, generous in portion size, and ABSOLUTELY delicious! I had the 6 oz hamburger steak and my husband had the catfish. We will be back.

After sitting for 30 minutes after ordering, I had to ask a waitress to check on our food. Our waitress had not been back to let us know why it was taking so long. They said the cook quit in the middle of his shift and the owner was in the kitchen trying to get the orders done. Once the food arrived, it was good with the exception that my toasted Texas toast missed getting toasted. It was plain bread. At no time did anyone even apologize for the long wait or lack of communication about the long wait.

It was ok. The food was good but the waitress took my plate and I wasn't finished eating.

I had the special of the day, Beef Stroganoff and it was quite delicious. My wife's chicken Parmesan was on point and my parents and two brothers, who were also eating with us, had nothing but good things to say about their food as well. The home-made ice-cream and gooey cake were also above par.
